everett wsh, with summer closing hockey begins to start up. the tips opened their 2013-2014 training camp this week. gm cory is excited about the teams outlook this year. the tips have 26 players in camp to start things off, but with the bantam and free agent drafts coming up in a couple of weeks the team may have to make some moves in order to draft. gm cory hasnt ruled out and possible deals but isnt throwing caution into the wind if the team stands pat and not draft any new players this year. the tips are heavy in the 18 and 17 year old brackets and the core is what this team is being built around. gm cory stressed to be successful you have to draft well, and doing so the scouting staff have to do their homework and then the coaches have to develop. the team really expect big things from 17 year old players jayce hawryluk, tyler sandhu, and reid duke.
new faces in camp.
newly acquired overager colin valcourt is in camp and is currently the only overager. valcourt will be asked to be a leader and help groom the young players. both imports are in camp, walterri hoppenon and alexey sleptsov look very good early. ryley lindgren and braden oleksyn are both in camp , both players were sent to midget last year and got more ice time to help them build confidence and mature . big things are expected from lindgren whos 17.
surprise I'm here!
the tips who drafted 2 imports and even traded to draft twice in the first round, now have a problem as last years top goalie eetu laurikanen is back and looking very good . gm cory wont comment much on the problem as he has 3 imports and three goalies in camp. it causes a problem and we are going to be forced to move a very good player or two to make our roster work , but we will wait and do our due dilligence and homework and make the best moves for our team said the gm. cory also says this isnt a bad problem and we like our depth and creates battles.
who are you?
as camp gets into full swing and exibition games just around the corner. new faces and old faces get to know each other a couple of vetern tips were forced to reastablish themselves. torrin white and carter hansen both dissappeared last season and they both hope their hard work in the offseason will help them play the way the tips had hoped . both players were highly touted and havent really lived up to those expectations.gm cory hesitated on saying that they both could be on the bubble moving forward.
good bye
for the first time in their young hockey lives two players will not be in a junior camp. zac yuen whos been with the tips since breaking into the league at 16 and david musil who was acquired in a trade both have moved onto the pro ranks and the tips wish them the very best .
